Sanctuary of Hope

As a teenager, I worked at an orphanage in Houston, Texas. It was there that I first looked into the eyes of an orphan and saw the deep pain of rejection—the heartbreak of a child who had no one to call family. Week after week, I watched those children wait for someone to visit… someone who never came. That experience left an imprint on my soul and planted a vision in my heart, one that the Holy Spirit has kept alive throughout my ministry.

When I came to San Antonio in the late 1960s, I tried to make that vision a reality by starting an orphanage. But circumstances beyond my control prevented it from happening. Though I was disappointed, I never let go of the dream to help children who were unwanted and unable to help themselves. Decades later, that same burden remains—and so does the vision!

Even though Roe v. Wade has been overturned, the battle for life is far from over. Organizations like Planned Parenthood continue to destroy future generations by promoting and performing abortions every single day. When a mother walks into one of these clinics, she’s not being given hope—she’s being handed despair. She is told that ending the life of her unborn child is her only option.

But what if we could offer her something different? What if, instead of a death sentence, we offered life—a viable alternative filled with compassion, support, and the possibility of a brighter future for both mother and child?

That’s exactly why we built Sanctuary of Hope—a Christ-centered refuge where young women are given a life-giving alternative to abortion. Here, mothers-to-be receive medical care, parenting education, spiritual guidance, adoption support, and the tools they need to choose life for their children. Every baby born at Sanctuary of Hope is a miracle—a living testimony that God’s plan still prevails!

We believe that abortion is never the answer. Yet belief alone is not enough. We must take a moral and biblical stand against this practice and continue to provide a life-giving solution for mothers who feel they have nowhere else to turn.

That is the purpose of Sanctuary of Hope: a place where faith replaces fear, where love overcomes loneliness, and where life begins again.

Because when you give hope, you give life.

Be A Part of the Inspired Vision

Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, the Sanctuary of Hope campus includes the Joe and Van Mabee Home, east and west wings, six individual family homes, a commercial kitchen, and a full K–12 education facility on 85 beautiful acres.

But the real work begins inside these walls. It takes faithful supporters like you to provide essential ongoing operations—medical care, nursery supplies, food, living expenses, education, staff support, and transportation.
